Saturday, March 8th
Saturday will be an exciting opportunity for collectors, artists and community members to meet and converse with Around the Coyote SELECT participating artists about their work and artistic process, possibly even walking away with a brand new addition to their collection. Then, at 6pm in the Around the Coyote Gallery (also located in the Flatiron Arts Building) our new exhibition On Naji al-Ali opens with an exhilarating view into the world of the late Palestinian cartoonist Naji al-Ali with accompanying work by Ramallah/New York based artist Emily Jacir and United Arab Emirates based artist Tarek al-Ghoussein. This exhibition is curated by Chicago's Haseeb Ahmed. More information about the exhibition can be found on our website www.aroundthecoyote.org. At 7pm in collaboration with Platypus, a Chicago based Marxist reading group, the gallery will host a panel discussion, designed to examine the political implications of the exhibition. Raja Halwani, professor of philosophy at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and Richard Rubin co-founder of Platypus combine forces to investigate the juxtaposition of idealism and reality upon the underlying prospect of the 'one state solution'.

Robert Burnier, Recursion
Sunday, March 9th
Around the Coyote SELECT will conclude with the final day to snatch up artwork from some of the most promising new and emerging artists in the city. Starting at 3pm as part of the Around the Coyote monthly New Play Reading Series, dedicated to helping playwrights perform new work, network with other artists, and workshop and receive feedback on their writing, Chicago-based playwright David Alex will present his new play The Hubble Constant. Audience members and fellow collaborators are invited to join for a talk-back discussion following the readings.
